India vs Mauritius Preview: Testing waters for hosts and new venturing for the visitors

ALTHOUGH THIS IS JUST A TWO MATCH tournament for each team, it is an opportunity for all three teams to complete their agendas.

For the visitors, it is a whole new level. As the Mauritius player Jonathan Bru, said yesterday at the press conference that they have been playing African nations and playing an Asian country like India will be a good test for the team. Mauritius have players playing in Europe and a few who have gone through youth systems of other countries but have now settled in Mauritius.

Coach of Mauritius, Francisco Filho stated today they would be fielding a young side against India. The recent run of form of the visitors has not been too impressive; not having won in the last six game. This short tournament gives coach Filho a chance to experience a much stronger nation than themselves.

For the hosts, this is a phase of change of sorts as coach Stephen Constantine has opted to rope in 10 Under-23 players I the senior side. He has been advocating to build a team for the future and this Tri-nation series is the best platform to try that out.

With the national camp clashing with Bengaluru FC’s AFC Cup campaign, the team will be without the talisman Sunil Chhetri and other BFC players. Among the ten youngsters, we are sure of seeing at least a couple of debuts considering about five substitutions allowed in a friendly game.
