Amiri parts ways with Chennai City amidst public tiff with head coach

ZOHIB ISLAM AMIRI, the Chennai City striker who got into a very public tiff with head coach V Soundararajan, has parted ways with the club following the controversy.

Last evening, after CCFC got a 1-1 draw against Bengaluru FC at home, the coach told the media that the former Afghanistan international had refused to play in the game as a substitute.

In reply, Amiri called Soundararajan a liar on social media and made various unseemly remarks about his own coach. This led to a major tiff between him and the Chennai City management and less than 24 hours later, he is no longer with the club.

Why was Amiri so irked by being dropped from the starting line-up? Well, if certain reliabe sources are to be believed, Amiri is among the players ISL franchise Kerala Blasters have short-listed for next season, and he may have been worried that not getting enough starts would make him lose out on a lucrative contract in the summer.

The whole ordeal was discussed at length in today's episode of TFG Football Podcast, which can be heard right here...

Amiri has been playing in the I-League for quite a few years. He has had spells at Mumbai FC, Dempo and DSK Shivajians before joining Chennai City this season. In this campaign, he had made 6 appearances for the rookie club and scored twice.
