Wenger speaks positive on Indian football says, 'You don't create top leagues just like that, It takes time'

THE GROWTH in Indian football is not just a distant mirage but, a true reality as Arsene Wenger believes India to become a key player in the transfer market in the near future.

The transfer window usually headlined by record transfer deals by English clubs, has been outshined this year by the entry of Chinese Super League clubs with their government-backed money. China has brought players such as Oscar and Carlos Tevez at very premium amounts.

Wenger expects India to be a potential rival to China as he said,

"I expect India to come into the game and hope it will happen," as told to AFP.

The Indian Super League which came into the foray from 2013, hasn't been shy on spending huge on former top class players. From it's start, players such as Rober Pires, John-Arne Riise, and recently to the likes of Uruguayan Diego Forlan, and Fredrick Malaouda have graced the league.

“It takes years of culture and work,” said Wenger. “You don't create a top league just like that. In England it was created 150 years ago and we still struggle" warned Wenger, by saying that India should not expect quick success.

Wenger who managed a Japanese club Nagoya Grampus Eight, from 1995 to 96 also added,

“It was the third year of professional football in Japan and you expect reflexes from people that are not there with the culture of professional football. So it will take time.”
