RAPID: When Kohli expressed his gratitude to Rajkumar Sharma on Teachers day

INDIA TEST SKIPPER Virat Kohli has time and again shown love and respect for his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma. The Delhi-lad might have emerged as one of the greatest batsmen of the generation but he has not forgotten his roots. Many a times, Kohli has also attributed his success in the international cricket to coach Rajkumar Sharma.

Last month, Kohli had taken to his twitter handle to congratulate Sharma after coming to know that he will be receiving Dronacharya Award for his contribution to the field of cricket.

On the occasion of Teacher’s day too, Kohli remembered his roots and posted a heart-warming tribute to his partnership with Sharma. The 27-year-old revisited his tough times and thanked Sharma for standing behind him like a rock. 

 

Happy teachers day to the best teacher in the whole world. Thank you raj kumar sir for giving me the lessons that have helped me go ahead in life. We have gone through ups and downs together but here we stand, stronger than ever before. Nothing could have been possible without you. The best partnership of my life. Thank you sir. You are amazing. 😊😊

However, it is not just this year that Kohli has remembered Sharma on Teacher’s day. In the year 2014, Kohli gifted Sharma a brand new car as a Teacher’s day gift. In the book ‘The Driven’, author Vijay Lokapally has recalled the overwhelming incident. As reported by PTI, Lokapally, who is reputed sports journalist, divulged his conversation with Rajkumar Sharma.

“I answered the bell and found Vikas [Kohli's elder brother] at the door. His brother’s arrival at his house so early in the day was cause for concern. Vikas stepped into the house, dialled a number and handed his cell phone to Rajkumar. ‘Happy teacher’s Day Sir’ -- said Virat, even as Vikas thrust something into Rajkumar’s palms -- a bunch of keys.”

He further added,

“Rajkumar stood perplexed as Vikas requested him to step out of his house. A gleaming Skoda Rapid was parked at the gate -- a gift from Virat to his mentor.It was not merely because he had gifted me the car. It was because of his emotional touch to the process of reminding me how much he treasured our association, and valued the role of a teacher in his life.”
