Changing the Landscape –Interview with Super Khalsa, First student of The Great Khali

Unlike the United States, India is not a country where professional wrestling thrives.

There are millions of fans that support the WWE and enjoy the product that it offers; still, the environment for a young aspiring wrestler to come up and perform at the national level is not there in India.

Super Khalsa has been a regular performer for CWE

The Great Khali is currently on a journey to change the landscape with his Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE), a wrestling promotion and training school based in Jalandhar. Khali set up the promotion back in January 25, 2015, and has been grooming stars for the future. One such standout performer in Khali’s promotion is Inderpreet Singh, who goes by the ring name Super Khalsa.

Inderpreet was the first student of Khali’s academy. A former powerlifter and India’s strongest man, Inderpreet chose the path of professional wrestling in order to pursue his childhood dream.

“My dad is the biggest fan of WWE. He used to watch wrestling before I was born. Later, I also started watching wrestling with him when I was a small kid. My friends used to call me Undertaker when I was young” he told me.

The impact that Inderpreet’s father, S. Gurcharan Singh had on his career is well evident from this. He also credits his family for being supportive of him even though it is not a career that most parents would want their child to follow.

He has been training under various coaches for the past two years

He has received training for the past two years under various coaches including former WWE superstar Ricardo Rodriguez. Not only that, Inderpreet has been attracting attention from other promotions but he is staying in CWE for the time being due to his love for the promotion and takes pride in the growth of the company.

“I got lots of offers but I always refused. CWE did big shows in Uttrakhand and Ludhiana recently and are also attracting crowds of 50,000 plus for our big events”

Recently, CWE took matters to the next level when Indian Cricketer Harbhajan Singh locked horns with Inderpreet and the latter has confirmed that more celebrities are in bound to CWE.

Despite his love for CWE, Inderpreet admits, just like all those wrestlers out there, that WWE is his biggest goal.

“WWE is my biggest goal. I even gave WWE trials before the WWE Live event in Delhi”

And when asked about his dream opponent, he had a clean cut answer: Brock Lesnar.

At 24 years, the journey of Inderpreet in the wrestling business has only begun but that does not stop him from spreading some inspiration to the upcoming wrestlers.

“Keep working hard for your dreams. Never quit and keep supporting Super Khalsa” he says.

We cannot predict what the future holds for Inderpreet, but his story excels on different levels. First of all, going behind a childhood dream is something that requires a lot of courage.

And secondly, the father-son bond that he projected during the interview was heart-warming. Finally, he has found himself a good teacher in the form of The Great Khali.

There have been financial roadblocks; Inderpreet admitted, but he keeps on going towards his dream of being a WWE wrestler. One day, he might reach there and make the road better for the upcoming performers in India.
