Ashwini, the Blaster!

No she didn't feature much in the doubles but she played one singles match. Yes, that's right, Ashwini Ponnappa played the women's singles match and it was against none other than, former World No.1 Carolina Marin. Everyone was left amazed when the draws of this tie was out (Bengaluru Blasters vs Hyderabad Hunters).

Ashwini was playing a singles match after almost 6 years and the fans thought this would be a cake walk for the Spaniard. But little did everyone know, that Ashwini with that strong backhand almost won the match. The Indian won the first game, 11-9 to put Marin under immense pressure. Too many errors from the Spaniard saw Ashwini capitalising on those mistakes and taking away points to her favour.

But Marin is a champion for a reason, she fought back and dominated the second game. The final game saw once again Ashwini pulling up some strong smashes and this gave the fans to think of a different result but then Marin shifted the table towards her and won the match.

Though Ashwini was on the losing side and this happened in PBL, it will be talked about and it is one thing to be proud of for the Indian. Keep that head high, girl!
