Bengaluru vs Ayeyawadi United match one of several games under suspicion for match-fixing

ONE OF THE MATCHES played by Bengaluru FC in the AFC Cup has come under suspicion for match-fixing, although any of the BFC staff or players are unlikely to be involved in any kind of wrongdoing.

The match played between Bengaluru FC and Myanmar-based club Ayeyawadi United, which proved to be a turning point for the Blues' AFC Cup campaign with a thumping 5-3 win, is one of the several under investigation by authorities for alleged fixing done through collusion of some of the Ayeyawadi players and officials, according to reports in Myanmar media.

The suspicion about the match deepens due to the fact that an anonymous UK-based professional gambler told FNI, one of the biggest Twitter accounts dedicated to Indian football, that he suspected the match was fixed by unnatural odds that were trending around the match in some of the online football betting portals. (FNI joins us in the TFG Sports Podcast: Football Edition tomorrow to talk in detail about the incident)

Although the match's legitimacy is suspect, it is likely to have no effect on Bengaluru FC's current AFC Cup campaign. The Champions of India have made it to the quarter finals of the continental competition where they will face Tampines Rovers in a home-away double header in September.
