David James pulls a fast one on Kerala football fans; not here to play in the ISL after all

Better times: Kerala Blasters reached the ISL final under David James

A FEW DAYS BACK, former England and Manchester City goalkeeper David James had announced that he was coming back to India, triggering a large amount of speculation amongst fans over the reason. The revelation came later and it wasn't quite what was expected.

The legendary goalkeeper hung up his boots in 2013, but came out of it for a stint at the private tournament, Indian Super League. He was the marquee player-manager for the franchise Kerala Blasters in the ISL's inaugural edition. They reached the final that year, losing to ATK by a last-minute goal. And that has been their best campaign till date.

So when he declared he was coming to India, there was much chatter. Some of his fans expected a second ISL stint, while others suspected he might be join Premier Futsal, another private tournament loosely affiliated with AMF -- a parallel body that's in direct conflict with FIFA over the control of the sport futsal.

But the real reason he came back is much less conspicous. He is simply here as a studio expert on Sony Six's coverage of the Euro 2016.

Just when the Kerala Blasters fans thought they finally had something to get really excited about.
