INDIA CAPTAIN Sunil Chhetri has signed a 1 year contract extension deal with Bengaluru FC, the club has confirmed today.

Sunil, who has been a part of the club since its inception in 2013, has been an integral part of the Blues' rise to the top in the Indian footballing circuit. In 3 seasons, they have won the I-League twice and the Federation Cup once. This season, after regaining the title of Champions of India, they also made their mark in Asia by qualifying for the quarter-finals of the AFC Cup.

Chhetri is already considered a club legend at Bengaluru FC, and he has spoken out multiple times about the pride he takes in wearing its shirt and its supporters. And he has put aside playing in the lucrative private tournament ISL for a chance represent Bengaluru FC in Asia.

Sunil can still join an ISL franchise on loan, but if Bengaluru FC go further in the continental tournament, he will miss the start of the private competition.

By the looks of it, extending Sunil's contract is the mere first step Bengaluru FC will be taking to strengthen themselves over the summer to put up a strong challenge in this prestigious continental tournament, where good results will not only uplift the stature of the club in Asian level but also that of Indian football in general.
