Bengaluru FC pitted against Tampines Rovers in AFC Cup 2016 quarter finals

I-LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Bengaluru FC have been pitted against Tampines Rovers in the quarter finals of AFC Cup 2016, in a draw held today.

The Blues made it into the AFC Cup quarters by beating Kitchee FC in the pre-quarter finals. This is the first time they have made it this far in Asia's second biggest continental tournament.

Their opponents, Tampines Rovers, have had two run-ins with Indian clubs so far. They played Mohun Bagan in the first round qualifiers for AFC Champions League in January, which they lost. They played Bagan again in the AFC Cup quarter finals, and overcame a depleted Mariners side by beating them 2-1 after extra time.

The Mighty Stags are probably one of the easiest opponents Bengaluru FC could have gotten in the quarter finals, and luck seems to be favouring them so far. The double leg tie will take place on 14th and 21st September, with the first leg likely to take place in Bengaluru's Kanteerava Stadium.
