Himmat Rai ends tied 15th at Manila; Pagunsan wins

INDIAN GOLFER Himmat Rai was done in by two late bogeys as he dropped out of the top-10 to sign off tied 15th with an even-par 71 in the final round of the Aboitiz Invitational in Manila today.

Himmat, a former winner on Asian Tour, carded an even-par 71 with three birdies and three bogeys to end with a total of eight-under 276.

Former Asian Tour number one Juvic Pagunsan romped to a commanding eight-shot victory. The 37-year-old Filipino, who held a share of the overnight lead, nailed six birdies to sign for a closing six-under 65 and a winning total of 20-under 264 at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club's Legends course.

Himmat, who was tied eighth over last two rounds, parred the first three holes before dropping a shot on the fourth. He picked his first birdie on the ninth and gave that away on the 14th.

He got that back with a birdie, only to drop yet another shot on the 16th. A birdie on 17th brought him to even par and he finished at even-par 71.

Pagunsan, who had a share of the lead over night, totalled 20-under and finished eight clear of co-leader Thai Pijit Petchkasem (73), Filipino Angelo Que (72) and Nirun Sae-Ueng of Thailand, who were all at 12-under.
