AIFF launches probe into Glen's racist remarks, show-cause notice issued to Mondal

Arnab Mondal (left) has been issued a show-cause by AIFF.

AIFF HAS SPRUNG into action over the allegation of racist comments that Mohun Bagan striker Cornell Glen made against East Bengal and national team defender Arnab Mondal.

The Bagan striker had made the accusation in a tweet after the Kolkata Derby, which East Bengal won 2-1. He had notified the referee about the incident the moment it had happened, and also told his team management about the matter, following which the Mariners sent an official letter of complaint to the governing body of Indian Football.

The AIFF, after taking a look at the situation and the official match commissioner's report, have issued a show-cause notice to Arnab Mondal which he has to answer by 7th April. Once that's done, the AIFF disciplinary committee will deliberate on whether or not Mondal is guilty and should be punished.

Arnab Mondal has vigorously denied any wrongdoing and the East Bengal management are backing him. Since there is no interim suspension, Mondal is expected to be a part of tonight's match between East Bengal and Mumbai FC.
