Mohun Bagan keeper Debjit Majumder gets surprise call-up to the Indian national team

IN A MOVE SURPRISING, but perhaps not surprising at all, Mohun Bagan keeper Debjit Majumder has been included in the Indian national team for the Blue Tigers' home match against Turkmenistan on 29th March.

The 28 year old keeper who has been a chief architect behind Mohun Bagan's success in the I-League. He was judged the best keeper of the season when the Mariners lifted the league title for the first time after 13 years back in May 2015. This season, too, he has been one of the main reasons the Green and Maroons are top of the table and unbeaten; with Debjit leading all keepers in the league with 5 clean sheets under his belt so far.

Debjit "Savejit" Majumder.

Debjit, who is affectionately called 'Savejit' by Mohun Bagan fans, was visibly elated this morning when he heard the news. This is the first time the keeper has received a call-up to the national team.

He is expected to fly to Kochi after playing the match against Aizawl FC that Bagan are slated to play on 26th March. Although it's likely that he will not be actually played, being with the national team is expected to be a huge boost of morale for the keeper; and according to many, a recognition for talent and achievement that has been overdue for a while now.
