Jeje Lalpekhlua is on a record breaking goal-scoring run in the AFC Cup right now
JEJE LALPEKHLUA is on a record-breaking run these days.
In recent times he has been one of the most successful strikers in India. Over the last few months, he won the I-League with Mohun Bagan, the ISL with Chennaiyin FC and the SAFF Championship with the Indian national team.
But now the Mizo striker has gone one up and played a vital part in the unbeaten run of Mohun Bagan in the I-League and AFC Cup. And after scoring 5 goals in 3 matches at the AFC Cup, he has become the joint standing highest scorer of the prestigious continental tournament; an honour few Indians have ever held.
Jeje has also broken the record of Lalrindika Ralte of scoring the highest number of goals (4) in a single edition of the AFC Cup.
There's another record ahead of Jeje. That is the honour of being the highest Indian goal-scorer of all time in the AFC Cup. Currently that record belongs to Baichung Bhutia, who scored 6 goals in the AFC Cup during his career.
Mohun Bagan still have 3 group stage games left, and they may go some distance into the knockout rounds; so Jeje is expected to have plenty of opportunities to touch and surpass that record too; all in the very first edition of AFC Cup that he has been a part of.
