Brandon Fernandes knee injury not serious but doctor advises a few day's rest at home to recover

HOMECOMING DIDN'T END too well for Mohun Bagan player Brandon Fernandes as he scored against his old club but then sustained an injury that has forced him out of football for the time being.

The 21 year old, who started his senior career with the Flaming Oranjes last season, moved to Mohun Bagan ahead of the I-League 2015-16. He was in the starting line-up last night as the Mariners went up against Sporting at Fatorda.

Soon enough the right winger got his first goal of the season. Out of respect for his old club he didn't celebrate it.

Then minutes later, after being involved in a reckless challenge, Brandon hurt his left knee and had to be carried out on a stretched. He was seen writhing in pain for the duration of the game.

After the match he was taken to the hospital where the doctor tested him and declared the injury to be not too threatening, but advised rest for a few days. Hence, as the rest of the team left Goa to return to Kolkata, Brandon was left behind to recuperate at home.

Luckily for Brandon, Mohun Bagan have a week before they play their next match. So while he will have some time to recover, his participation in Bagan's AFC Cup match against South China away from home has come under a big question mark.
