After IPL and ISL teams, Goenka keen on buying an overseas football club

INDIAN BUSINESS TYCOON Sanjiv Goenka is a busy man these days. Yesterday, the chairman of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka group was seen launching the jersey of his new IPL team Rising Pune Supergiants. Besides owning the IPL Pune franchise, he also co-owns a team in the Indian Super League (Atletico de Kolkata).

Now, like his fellow IPL owners Shah Rukh Khan and Dr. Vijay Mallya, Goenka is keen on buying another sporting club outside of India. As reported by the hindubusinessline, Goenka said he might acquire an international football team.

"It could be expansion activity in the sports that we are already present in. We could hypothetically look at acquiring a football club overseas. But our immediate focus is to build a football academy and get into grassroots football. We will also look at expanding (group’s presences) to other sports. I am enjoying my tryst with sports.”

Goenka is yet to generate profits from his ISL team but said, 'I can see the path to profitability.' Meanwhile, the industrialist has also said that his company is looking to open a new football academy in Kolkata soon.
