Djokovic-Nadal book their places in the semis of ATP Qatar Open

NOVAK DJOKOVIC AND Rafael Nadal were tested in their quarter-finals yesterday but successfully managed to book their places in the semi-finals of the ATP 250 Qatar Open.

The World No.5 Nadal struggled in his clash against the Russian Andrey Kuznetsov, but held his nerve and played some high percentage tennis to wrap up the match in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

Speaking after the match, the Spaniard said,

''He played so crazy with amazing shots,'' said Nadal. ''It's true that I missed the serve more times than what I wanted. I think I played a great third set, because if not, I will not be in that semifinal.''

Nadal will play the Ukrainian Illya Marchenko today in the semis.

On the other hand, World No.1 Djokovic too was in a spot of bother in the second set against Leonardo Mayer. The Serb was cruising after winning the first set, but suddenly found himself trailing behind the second set. Just when it appeared that the Argentinian would serve for the set, the Serb fought back, broke serve and nailed the match in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.

Djokovic was full of praises for his opponent.

''I think I've played better first and second sets, but credit to him for being solid and going for his shots. The second set was very close and it could've gone his way. It was a good test to see where I am.”

Djokovic too will play his semis against Tomas Berdych today.
