Mumbai City team stuck in Chennai floods, doubt over match against ATK

THE MUMBAI CITY TEAM has been stranded in Chennai since playing their match against Chennaiyin FC on Tuesday night. As the flood situation continues to worsen in the Tamil Nadu capital, all flights have been cancelled and chances for the team to exit the city looks dim. This has created a question mark over tomorrow's match between Atletico de Kolkata and Mumbai City FC to be held at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

The Anelka-led Mumbai team was supposed to reach Kolkata yesterday. But they are stuck at the hotel and all flights to and from Chennai have been cancelled til 6th December due to the runway being flooded. So going by air is an impossibility; although the organizers are trying to take them to Bangalore by road and fly them from there. There is also talk of the team being flown out by military aircraft later today.

This means that the Mumbai City squad will go without practice even today, and reach Kolkata by tomorrow morning, on the day of the match. Although Mumbai have already been knocked out of the race to semi-finals and ATK have made it to the playoffs, tomorrow's match is crucial in the defending champions' bid to finish at the top of the table and get a relatively easier opponent in the semi-finals. Facing an under-prepared Mumbai team increases the chances for the home team to get a win and for the visitors to get further humiliated to end an already embittered campaign on an even worse note.
