Bopanna/Mergea lose to Fognini/Bolelli, will play World Tour Finals semis on Saturday

THE INDO-ROMANIAN pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea have lost their final round-robin match to the Italian pair of Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli 4-6, 6-1, 5-10 at the World Tour Finals in London.

The eighth seeds have already booked their places in the semis after winning their previous two matches in comfortable fashion.

After Bopanna dropped his serve in the opening game of the first set, the Italians pressed home the advantage to nail the opener. However, Bopanna/Mergea responded quickly by taking the second set in convincing fashion, pushing the match into a super tie-breaker.

The fifth seeds completed their campaign with a win in just over an hour’s time. Bopanna and Mergea, 2-1 overall in round-robin play, will now prepare for Saturday's semi-finals against the Group Fleming/McEnroe runners up.
