Super Sania turns 29 in an extraordinary year of success!

SANIA MIRZA turned 29 on November 15 and this has been an extra-ordinary year for the ace tennis player that saw her scale the heights of doubles tennis.

At present, Sania is the most revered name in Indian women tennis. She broke into the scene after becoming the first Indian woman to win the singles World Tennis Association (WTA) title in Hyderabad.

Sania started her doubles campaign when she won the Wimbledon junior girls title back in 2003 partnering with Russian Alisa Kleybanova.

Then teaming with Mahesh Bhupati, Sania won the mixed doubles Grand Slam titles in 2009 and 2012. All these victories made her a known name in the tennis world and she won a lot of fans across the globe.

In 2015, she went a step ahead when she won 10 doubles titles out of which 9 titles came with her Swiss partner Martina Hingis. She reached the pinnacle of women's doubles by claiming the top spot in WTA rankings in March this year.

Her association with the Swiss tennis star was just so good that they won two Grand Slam titles -- US Open and the Wimbledon within a gap of few months.

The successful pair went on to end the year on a high by winning the WTA tour finals in Singapore earlier this month.

Saina and Martina's other titles include Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Beijing and they also ended being at top (No. 1) this year.

She now looks forward to winning a medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

"It's just a hope.  If we (she and Leander Paes) win (a medal in mixed doubles), it will be a dream come true," Sania told indiatoday.intoday.in

Excelling in her sport, she went onto inspire her husband Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik to make a brilliant comeback into international cricket. After scoring a double ton in his comeback Test and picking up his career-best figures in his comeback series, Malik decided to call it quits from Test cricket.

"After watching her win titles even after battling with fitness issues I was also inspired to match her feats as a professional sportsman, It is a healthy competition between husband and wife who are professional athletes. I credit my wife for my change in approach to training and my recent success and new international career," Malik said.

In 2015, Malik bowed out on a high, while Sania still continues to inspire her fans and everyone around.
