Bopanna/Mergea upset top seeds Bryan brothers at World Tour Finals
THE INDO-ROMANIAN pair of Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea upset top seeds Bryan brothers 6-4, 6-3 in their doubles opener at the World Tour Finals in London.
Both teams served badly in the first set despite the conducive conditions, but the eight seeds won some crucial points at the business end of the opening set. In the second set, Bopanna/Mergea kept the pressure on the legendary pair by breaking serve early.
In the end, the underdogs converted 5 out of their 11 break point opportunities for the match. Bopanna/Mergea top their group along with Jamie Murray/John Peers and have increased their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages.
