Bopanna/Mergea defeated in the quarters at Paris Masters 1000

TOP INDIAN DOUBLES player Rohan Bopanna, partnering Romanian Florin Mergea, have crashed out from Paris Masters 1000 after losing to Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo  5-7, 7-6(4), 10-12  in the quarters yesterday.

Bopanna/Mergea got broken early at a crucial juncture in the first set and couldn’t manage to break back. In the second set, both teams looked even on serve, owing to which a tie-break had to be played. Bopanna/Mergea did well to inch ahead in the breaker and stretched the match to a super tie-breaker.

In the end, after some closely fought points, the Brazilian-Croat pair nailed the match and moved into the semis. Dodig/Melo converted 50% of their break points and ended up winning 83 points for the match, just six more than their opponents.

Bopanna/Mergea will qualify for the World Tour Finals in London unless Pospisil and Sock win the Paris doubles title.
