Radwanska denies Kvitova, captures maiden WTA Finals title

AGNIESZKA RADWANSKA EDGED Petra Kvitova 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in a thriller of a final to capture her maiden WTA Finals crown in Singapore.

The former World no.2 was on the threshold of exiting the tournament early in the round-robin stages. But with some help from Maria Sharapova found her place in the knock-out stages to grab her biggest WTA title of her career thus far.

Competing against her long-time rival, Kvitova in the final- also playing her first WTA Finals, Radwanska came out firing on all cylinders and raced to pouch the first set. In the following set, the southpaw found her top game with some big hitting to level the match.

However, the Polish player was determined to cash in the opportunity and exerted pressure on her opponents serve and won three consecutive games to clinch the tie.

In her on-court interview to wtatennis, Radwanska said,

"A few weeks ago I didn't even know I'd have a chance to be here, and there you go. It's just an incredible day for me. It means everything.  It couldn't be any better. I think that was the biggest day in my life."
