UNITED SPORTS CLUB HAVE started their Calcutta Football League campaign with a 2-0 win over Pathachakra FC.
Both clubs, known for their focus on grassroots and youth development, previously had a partnership where players from the Pathachakra academy played for United SC in state and national level competitions. However, Pathachakra have since themselves earned a promotion to the CFL Premier Division.
This meeting of old allies was competitive till the end, with chances being created on both ends. But a brace from Bijoy Bahadur Gurung made all the difference in the game, handing United SC the victory.
Pathachakra have now suffered two losses in a row, dropping to the bottom of the Grup A points table. The famous academy, which is fielding a young side in a league full of senior semi-professional clubs, is facing an uphill task ahead; where if they don't turn things around soon they may end up relegated.
