ISL: Juan Ferrando to continue as Mohun Bagan head coach

JUAN FERRANDO WILL remain the head coach of Mohun Bagan for one more season at least.

The Spanish gaffer joined the Mariners back in 2021, and last season guided them to their first ever ISL playoff trophy victory.

Ferrando, who was the FC Goa head coach before joining MB, came under criticism after the Kolkata-based club finished third in the ISL league due to poor form early in the season. But Ferrando, who had predicted a turnaround for the team, was true to his word as in the playoffs they beat Hyderabad FC and Bengaluru FC in back to back penalty shootouts to clinch the cup.

Rumours during the season suggested that the MBSG management had a pre-existing agreement with Ferrando where he would get a much bigger deal to stay on as the head coach if he was to win a major trophy. Today's announcement indicates that they have followed through on it.

Ferrando, however, would not be in charge of the Mohun Bagan team that would take part in the Calcutta Football League. That team, made up mostly of youngsters who recently took place in the Reliance Foundation Developmental League, will be helmed by renowned youth football coach Bastab Roy.
