The second MasterCard ODI Trophy will be played between India and Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens Cricket Stadium in Kolkata, India. The match will start at 1:30 PM IST.
In the first MasterCard ODI trophy, Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and put India into bat. The Indian team had a rollicking start with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s partnership of over a 100 runs for the first wicket. After Shubman gill got out for 70 runs, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Carried on the momentum with a partnership where Rohit Sharma got out for 83 of 67 balls.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul came together for yet another crucial collaboration With Virat Kohli going on to get his 45th one day international making 100, with a total tally of hundreds In international cricket summing up to 73 and equalling Sachin Tendulkar's record of 20 one day international hundreds on home soil.
The performance of team India in the first match of the ODI, had it under control for the majority of time and the ease in the last 10 overs of the mat. Undoubtedly it was a perfect start to the first ODI for the Indian team, where they nearly ticked all the boxes, the two big virtues in the match being Rohit Sharma’s ominous comeback in to the team and Virat Kohli’s Perfect notching up a brilliant 100 in the distinctive Virat Kohli style. What brilliant start to start to the new year.
Now talking about the second ODI, the catch is that whichever team wins the toss Should offer to bat first and put up a huge score on the board, as it will be easier in the second innings to chase. Reason being the generous dew fall on the cricket ground, at this time of the year, which makes batting in the second innings easier and the ball skids of the pitch and comes comfortably on to the bat without any lateral movement. Also the batsman can hit effortlessly through the line of the ball without any worries of the ball misbehaving off the track.
Some tips for team India- do strive to replicate the 100 run partnership of the first ODI and do not give the Sri Lankans any chance to crawl back into the series.
Some strict do nots for the Sri Lankan team- the toothless bowling in the first ODI is not going to work and their bowling needs a hard push in the second match. Bowling too short or too wide and feeding the Indian batsman with runs outside the off stump, will lead them nowhere. The Lankans need to bowl much straighter lines and lengths then they did in the first ODI.
