Mumbai City lodge official complaint against referee Al Khudayr regarding alleged racist comments

SHORTLY AFTER Mumbai City FC head coach Jorge Costa accused referee Turki Al Khudayr of making racist comments, the club has officially lodged a complaint with the AIFF.

The move came after Costa accused Al Khudayr, who was officiating the match between Bengaluru FC and Mumbai City FC, of calling MCFC forward Serge Kevyn "a monkey" and making inappropriate gestures.

The club reached out to the Federation regarding this, and the matter was taken up by the AIFF Disciplinary Committee.

In a statement, AIFF said,

"All India Football Federation has received a complaint from Mumbai City FC against Saudi Arabian referee Turki Mohammed Al Khudayr for making racist remarks to Mumbai City FC player Serge Kevyn Angoué in their Hero Indian Super League match against Bengaluru FC held on December 15, 2019.

The All India Football Federation follows a zero toleration policy against racism and the complaint has been forwarded to the Disciplinary Committee to investigate into the matter and take appropriate action if found guilty."

The AIFF Disciplinary Committee is already scheduled to meet on December 20th where it will look into multiple ongoing matters, including the allegations of improper conduct by East Bengal player Jaime Colado.

However, given how recent the Al Khudayr incident is, a final ruling may not be reached on Sunday, as the investigation and due process takes time to play out.
