Teacher and student enter into a verbal battle after match

WHAT BEGAN AS A self-proclaimed battle between "a teacher and a student" turned into a full-on verbal warfare after the match for Roberto Carlos, after Delhi Dynamos suffered a 2-0 defeat to Zico's FC Goa in their season-opening fixture at Goa.

Speaking to reporters in the post-match press conference, Roberto Carlos accused the FC Goa players of behaviour unbecoming of sportsmen,

"The Goa players wasted time on purpose. They behaved rudely with the referee and argued with him. I have never seen anything like this in my playing career. The referee should have taken care of this. I will write to the Football Federation (sic) about it. This is not a good thing."

The match, which saw the visitors being outplayed in all departments almost throughout the 90 minutes, saw tensions flare between players many times as the battle turned increasingly physical in the midfield.

FC Goa coach Zico, however, was less than interested in taking Carlos's allegations seriously. Eager to focus instead on the stern test his team was about to face against Atletico de Kolkata, he said,

"Losing teams make a lot of complaints. But no one says things like this. If we did something wrong the referee would've done well to warn us. Carlos told me all this, I didn't make much of it."

The first round of the battle of the two Brazilians has ended with a victory for Zico, but the prevailing tension left hanging in the air between the two promises for a much more competitive and fiesty encoutner in the return leg as Roberto Carlos and his Delhi Dynamos side will look to strike back and settle the score once and for all.
