Chennai vs ATK: Home side dominates at half-time; looks set for first win

Starting Line ups -

Atletico de Kolkata: Amrinder, Arnab, Rino Anto, Augustin Fernandes, Javi Lara, Jaime Gavilan, Borja Fernandez (C), Nato, Iain Hume, Baljit, Postiga.

Chennaiyin FC: Elano, Edel, Das, Potenza, Thoi, Fikru, Jeje, Khabra, Augusto, Ralte, Mailson

The game started with the home side controlling more of the game, running raids into the ATK half and putting constant pressure on them with corners and free kicks.

Chennaiyin got the first good chance as a free kick from Elano swung in dangerously into the Kolkata box, but Jeje Lalpekhlua missed to score with a header from close range.

Atletico de Kolkata got a free kick off Thoi Singh's foul on Iain Hume. The free kick by Javi Lara took a deflection off Harmanjot Khabra's hand and earned him the game's first yellow card.

Chennaiyin then put some pressure back onto Atletico de Kolkata wth Elano and Abhishek Das targeting Fikru with long balls.

But it was ATK's Helder Postiga who scored against the run of play as Chennaiyin keeper Edel came out to collect an incoming ball, but clashed with their own defender Maison Alves, dropped the ball and fell down. The ball fell to Postiga's feet who made no mistake finding the net.

Two minutes later, Elano sent one past the ATK defence to an unmarked Fikru. He took the shot but missed the mark by three inches.

Chennaiyin kept the pressure on and finally got back on equal terms. Just past the 30 minute mark, Elano targeted yet another ball at Fikru. But ATK keeper Amrinder Singh came out and threw himself in the Ethipian striker's path. The ball got deflected and came to Jeje and he made no mistake shooting it in with extreme prejudice.

A physical game continued for the rest of the half as Baljit Sahni kept engaging the opponents and collected a yellow card for a foul. Elano kept on the pressure, constantly feeding the ball to Fikru and Jeje, as a tense half came to an end.

At the break, it was Atletico de Kolkata who had enjoyed the majority of the stadium but Chennaiyin FC led the visitors 10 to 3 in terms of shots; clearly the more aggressive side.
