Indian Football Team -- Dhanpal Ganesh has typhoid, Vinit Rai to replace him in national camp

THE NATIONAL TEAM CAMP ahead of the upcoming Intercontinental Cup is received a slight setback with Dhanpal Ganesh falling ill with typhoid.

The midfielder who played regularly for ISL champions Chennaiyin FC in the 2017-18 season and played a 10 minute cameo last year when India got a crucial away win against Myanmar in the Asian Cup Qualifiers was picked by head coach Stephen Constantine in the 30 player squad for the national team camp being held in Mumbai. But due to his illness he has been ruled out of the upcoming Intercontinental Cup to be played in Mumbai between India, Chinese Taipei, New Zealand and Kenya.

To replace him, a youngster has been given the coveted call-up. 20 year old medio Vinit Rai, who played fairly regularly for Delhi Dynamos in the 2017-18 season, will be joining the camp in Dhanpal's stead.

Vinit has been in Constantine's radar for a long time. Back in 2016, he got to play for the Indian national team in an unofficial friendly match against Bhutan as a substitute for about half an hour. He is yet to represent India in an official game.
