ISL 2017: Dynamos’ Edu Moya expresses concern over sub-standard refereeing in ISL

THE LIONS were at the receiving end of a drubbing at home at the hands of FC Goa yesterday. Although the score line read 1-5 but Delhi Dynamos were not that bad a side in the game. But the argument on the flipside is that FC Goa were good at their finishing and punished Delhi for their mistakes.

The game saw Cichero being sent off in the second half after receiving two yellow cards. It was a physical game from the start, tackles flew in from both ends, some really appealing to be cautioned by the referee. To keep the game flowing, referee kept cards to his pocket in the first half except for one yellow to Cichero. Guyon and Lumu were the other players to go in the referee’s book in the game. Delhi’s Edu Moya tweeted his disappointment about the game as below.

Delhi felt undone by the fact that not a single FC Goa player was booked even after repeated protest by Delhi players in case of rash fouls. To top it all, coach Miguel Portugal also saw himself a red card from the referee as his arguments about the FC Goa players’ fouls went too far.

Not the first time we have seen complaints about sub-standard refereeing in the ISL. In the game, this season between FC Goa and Bengaluru FC had the Bengaluru goalkeeper Gurpreet Sandhu being sent off after he struck Lanrarote but the replays clearly suggested that Lanzarote had stamped the keeper in the first place inviting his reaction. Sandhu, after the disciplinary committee review the incident was banned for two games wheras no action was taken against Lanrarote. We will have to wait to see if Edu Moya’s reaction fetches any attention to improve the quality of refereeing in the league.
