AXAR PATEL has been named as the replacement for Ravindra Jadeja for the third Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele, starting August 12.
The Gujarat all-rounder has donned the India colors in 30 ODIs and seven T20Is but is yet to feature in the longest format. Jadeja’s suspension following his sixth demerit point for throwing the ball back at the batsman during the Colombo Test has provided Axar the opportunity to make his Test debut. The BCCI divulged that it was a toss-up between Axar and Jayant Yadav.
Axar is currently with India A in South Africa and is expected to join team India anytime soon. He last featured for India A in the recently concluded tri-series involving South Africa A and Afghanistan A. The promising youngster remained third highest wicket taker for India A after picking 7 wickets from 4 matches.
