WATCH: Anup Kumar thanks PM Modi for championing sports development in India
THE GUJARAT government welcomed prominent international athletes to the opening ceremony of ‘Khel Mahakumbh 2017’, an initiative aimed to foster health and fitness, to create a culture of sports and to identify talent across various sports.
The event which is popularly known to be PM Narendra Modi’s brainchild was attended by renowned athletes like Bhaichung Bhutia, Anup Kumar, Parthiv Patel, Irfan Pathan, Kidambi Srikanth, Pulela Gopichand and many more. Modi inaugurated the TransStadia Arena, a stadium complex in Maninagar area in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, and addressed the gathering present there. The PM also reckoned for a culture where sports is appreciated and supported, starting from family.

In response, India and U Mumba skipper Anup Kumar took to his official Twitter handle to express his delight. The veteran raider thanked Modi for giving a boost to sports development in the country.
