This Week in Impact History: Cheex breaks the ring ropes

15 years ago, on June 19th, 2002, Jerry and Jeff Jarrett’s dream wrestling promotion became a reality, when IMPACT Wrestling had its’ first ever show from the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

However, it did not go on without a few mishaps! During the company’s first ever match, the massive wrestler, Cheex, hit the ropes with so much force, that his 450-pound body, that one of the ropes broke. While workers were busy rapidly fixing the broken rope, country music star Toby Keith entertained fans, although he was interrupted by Jeff Jarrett.

Some notable names who went on to become stars in the promotion were part of the first ever IMPACT Wrestling show. Those names included Ken Shamrock, Konnan, AJ Styles and James Storm.

In a matter of days, IMPACT Wrestling will celebrate its 15th year as a major wrestling promotion at Slammiversary in Orlando, Florida on July 2nd.
