Play-by-Play: Mohun Bagan slip at home on a rainy night, lose to Maziya 0-1 in AFC Cup

A GOAL FROM Mohamed Umair in the first half was enough for Maziya to claim a 0-1 victory against Mohun Bagan at their own backyard.

Sanjoy Sen chose to field an all-Indian side, with almost all his crucial players rested for Saturday's I-League title decider against Aizawl FC.

Featuring 10 changes from the side that started against Minerva Punjab, the Mariners were still exerting a good amount of control on the game. Prabir Das, playing instead of Katsumi on the right wing, was especially explosive; running up and sending tight crosses for Balwant and Jeje. He created most of the chances for the home team in the first half.

Maziya were trying to hold on against relentless Mohun Bagan attack at one point. But then a great run from Mohamed Umair that took the MB defenders off guard allowed him to get to the edge of the box and shoot with his left foot. Stop-gap keeper Shibin dived to his left but fell just short of making a save.

This one goal was enough to push the visitors over the edge as they held up strong against repeated attacks from the home team in the second half. Mohun Bagan came close several times, especially when Katsumi Yusa came on for the last few minutes. But the goal was not forthcoming. The Mariners suffered their first loss in this AFC Cup campaign and their first loss at home this season, forcing them down to the third place in the group.

Here's how the action-packed rain soaked match unfolded...
