Khalid Jamil wants to focus on team synergy ahead of Bagan clash; reserves decision on Amnah injury

KHALID JAMIL HAS BEEN known for upsetting major clubs in the I-League before as the head coach of Mumbai FC, but this season things have gone up a notch with him at the helm of Aizawl FC. And tomorrow as his players take on Mohun Bagan, he will look to take their ambitions up a notch.

Aizawl FC are off to a great start with 13 points from 6 matches so far, after registering wins against Shillong Lajong, Mumbai FC, DSK Shivajians etc and a hard-fought draw away from home against East Bengal. Facing the Mariners at Rabindra Sarobar tomorrow, Khalid Jamil's boys will stand a higher than usual of getting something out of this game due to the injury problems persistent in the Green and Maroon camp.

The Aizawl gaffer, though, is not ready to bank on the opponents' bad situation but rather wants to focus on getting his own players to do better. Ahead of the match he told the press,

"The team have settled down well and we're improving match by match. I give all the credit to the boys. They got less time and adapted very well."

The only problem brewing in Aizawl's own camp seems to be the toe injury of key midfielder Mahmoud Al Amnah. Khalid said the decision on whether he will play or not is still pending,

"We are ready for the match and we are not taking anything lightly. We will take a call on Mahmoud Amnah who has a toe injury. He may or may not start."

Aizawl have a string of crucial games lined up where they face Mohun Bagan, Bengaluru FC and East Bengal over the next 3 weeks; games that may come to shape the I-League title race. The Peoples' Club is expected to see a high number of their supporters turning up at Rabindra Sarobar Stadium tomorrow as they continue what appears to be a campaign aiming for a much higher success than they experienced in the league last season.
