Materazzi rues giving away 2 points, Habas feels Pune were better

HABAS HAS RETURNED to the dug-out from his 4 match suspension. Chennaiyin FC were stablizing their rocky start of the ISL Season to slowly moving up the ladder of the league table. A victory could have taken CFC right on top of the table but Anibal made sure Chennaiyin don't go home with the 3 points.

Post the game, both team head coaches spoke to the press. On the draw, Coach Materazzi said,

"I am happy with 1-0. That's why I am upset because we threw away two points. But overall, we have had a good performance. What happened is that we made three or four stupid fouls that not even kids would have made"

Habas, if he was satisfied with the result said,

“I am not happy with one point. But I am very happy with the performance of the team. They behaved like I wanted them to"

Habas continued,

“Chennai are the champions of last season. Pune haven’t reached the semi-finals yet but today Pune played like champions and we were better. The score was 1-1 and Chennai is a good team but Pune was a lot better.”

Materazzi mentioned that Pune were not too threatening in the outfield and commented,

“The way I see it, they had no shots on goal from open play. They only had two shots on goal from set-pieces. They never had any chances apart from set-pieces,”

Habas did admit that his team must score from open play to do well in the league.

Chennaiyin's goal came from an outstanding effort from Jeje. The Indian forward, while muscling Eduardo saw Bete off line his line and lobbed a ball to beat him in splendid fashion. Asked to comment on Jeje's goal, Coach Habas said,

"We made one mistake in 90 minutes and they scored. We made more chances than Chennai. We make a mistake and we go a goal down. I also think that Jeje created a foul on Eduardo but I only think, maybe it is. I have not seen the replay yet."

Chennaiyin FC were just back home after playing NorthEast United FC in Guwahati. Asked if the team was stretched with the travel, Materazzi replied,

“No, I don't think that was a crucial factor. Hanghal played well in Guwahati and then played very well today as well. He is only 20 years old. Those who I felt were tired, I took them off. I don't want to discuss the schedule but one thing I'm sure of is that the team with the least number of injuries will have a big advantage in the long run”
