PV Sindhu & Saina Nehwal enter the quarter-finals of India Open SS

WOMEN'S SINGLES SHUTTLER PV SINDHU extended her head-to-head lead to 6-0 over Busanan Ongbumrungphan of Thailand after beating at the India Open Super Series held at the Siri Fort in New Delhi.

Unlike, the first round it wasn't an easy win for the Indian as the Thai shuttler put up a great challenge to force the match into a decider but eventually Sindhu won 17-21, 21-19, 21-16. Sindhu's quarter-final opponent is Korean Bae Yeon Ju. The head-to-head count favours the Korean, 2-1.

Meanwhile, defending champion, Saina Nehwal had an easy outing against Nitchaon Jindapol of Thailand. The second seed Indian outplayed the thai shuttler in straight games, 21-19, 21-14. Her quarter-final opponent is fifth seed Sung Ji Hyun of Korea. Saina holds a dominant lead over the Korean, 5-1.

On the other hand, youngster Rituparna Das lost to higher ranked and experienced player Ratchanok Intanon. The fourth seed Thai shuttler needed only 21 minutes to oust the Indian, 21-9, 21-4.

In the men's doubles, Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy bowed out after losing to Chen Hung Ling/Chi-Lin Wang of Taipei in straight games, 21-19, 21-12. The campaign also ended for the duo of Jishnu Sanyal/Shivam Sharma and Akshay Dewalkar/Pranaav Jerry Chopra. Jishnu/Shivam lost to Lee Sheng Mu/Tsia Chia Hsin 17-21, 15-21 while Akshay /Pranaav were defeated by second seeds Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang of Korea 18-21, 15-21.

In the women's doubles category, Mohita Sahdev/Sanjana Santosh defeated Poornima Ch/Rachita Sahdev 21-16, 21-17 to set up a clash against Japanese pair Naoko Fukuman/Kurumi Yonao in the quarter-finals.

It was the end of the road for mixed doubles duo of Manu Attri/Ashwini Ponnappa and Pranaav/Sikki Reddy.
