Bopanna/Mergea fail to defend their Madrid Masters title

THE INDO-ROMANIAN PAIR OF Rohan Bopanna /Florin Mergea failed to defend their Madrid Open title as they went down to Jean-Julien Roger /Horia Tecau in the Spanish capital on Sunday.

The sixth seeds Bopanna/Mergea lost 4-6, 6-7 (5) to the third seeds in a match that went on for an hour and 11 minutes.

It was a vital match for the Indian as he was defending 1000 points.

In another doubles match, Sania Mirza and her partner Martina Hingis too lost their final match on Saturday at the same venue.
