President to be chief guest at Mohun Bagan's 125th year celebrations

PRESIDENT PRANAB MUKHERJEE will be the chief guest for city football giant Mohun Bagan's 125th year celebrations which will be held on August 22.

The club was supposed to celebrate the annual day on July 29 as in earlier years as a mark of respect for the team which won the IFA shield against East Yorkshire Regiment on this very day in 1911.

The president, however, would have been unable to attend the ceremony on Wednesday and hence it was rescheduled to August 22 after his consent.

"The president has said he will be present. We are trying to make all the possible arrangements to see that it is a grand success. We could not have it last year due to financial constraints. So we are putting our best foot forward this year," club secretary Anjan Mitra told reporters here.

The president will felicitate the Mohun Bagan team who clinched the I-League this year besides awarding "Mohun Bagan Ratna" to Arumay Naigam and Karuna Shankar Bhattacharya.

Only the members would be allowed to attend the ceremony and a lot of other top dignitaries would be present.

"We expect around 12000 people. However, the function is only open for members," Mitra said.
