Fernando Verdasco is one of the few players on the ATP tour to have successfully competed in both singles and doubles circuits. His best performance in a singles event at a Grand Slam was making the semifinals of the 2009 Australian Open against compatriot Rafael Nadal. Even today, many experts believe that it was one of the very best semi-finals in Aussie Open history. The Spaniard achieved his career-high singles ranking of world no. 7 in 2009. Verdasco was also instrumental in helping Spain winning three Davis Cup titles in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
