EAST BENGAL EARNED their biggest victory of CFL 2023 yet, beating bottom-table Eastern Railway 5-1.
The Red & Golds, who are fielding their development team in the Calcutta Football League Premier Division, played in the East Bengal Ground, the club's traditional home in the Maidaan, for the first time in 4 years and made the most out of the special occasion in front of thousands of their fans.
They took the lead about 20 minutes in when Avishek Kunjam slapped it into the net off a free kick. Half an hour into the game, Vanlalpeka Guite doubled their lead. Aman, the standout performer of the match, scored twice; once in each half.
Early in the second half, Eastern Railway found their solitary goal of the match through Dibyendu Chanda. But EB ensured a 4 goal win through Rajibul Mistry's late goal that sealed a scoreline of 5-1.
This win has kept East Bengal in the top 3; with 11 points from 5 matches. They are just 1 point behind Bhawanipore FC and Calcutta Customs, who are both on 12 points, with BFC having played a game less.
