IF THINGS GO TO PLAN, famous multi-sports clubs from Kolkata like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan & Mohammedan Sporting, who are active in football, cricket & athletics with history in hockey, will also add a permanent futsal department to their setup.
The Indian Football Association (West Bengal) wants to kick off a statewide futsal competition, with an eye towards using it to develop young football talent. The tournament is expected to feature 16 teams, competing against each other in a league-cum-knockout format.
IFA is expected to bring in major clubs like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan & Mohammedan Sporting, Multiple other clubs from Calcutta Football League Premier Division A & B, the top two tiers of the CFL, are also going to be invited to participate.
According to reports, the tournament might feature 1 foreign player per team. But the emphasis will remain on promoting Indian talent, using futsal as an entry point to develop promising young players.
Some of the matches are expected to be played at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, the most famous indoor arena of the state.
