Sindhu, Prannoy, Jwala/Ashwini sail into the quarters of China GPG

WOMEN'S SINGLES SHUTTLER PV SINDHU fought hard to claim a spot in the quarters of the China Masters Grand Prix Gold. The fourth seed Indian defeated Chien Hui Yu of Taipei in straight games 21-9, 21-17.

Though the first game was an easy win, in the second Chien got the best out of Sindhu to force the match into the decider. But Sindhu did not give up instead came back fighting to win the second game and eventually the match.

Her quarter-final opponent is an old foe, Thai shuttler Porntip Buranaprasertsuk. The head-to-head is in favour of Sindhu, 5-3.

Men's singles shuttler HS Prannoy continued his good form. The seventh seed Indian had an easy win over Malaysian Daren Liew in straight games 21-10, 21-15.

He will have a tough outing in the quarters as he takes on World No. 1 and top seed Chen Long of China. The head-to-head count is in favour of the Chinese, 2-0.

The women's doubles duo of Jwala Gutta/Ashwini Ponnappa too had a comfortable victory over Hsieh Pei Chen/Wu Ti Jung of Taipei 21-12, 21-12 in just 21 minutes. They too face tough opponents in the quarters, top seeds Luo Ying/Luo Yu of China. The Chinese dominates the head-to-head count, 3-0.

Meanwhile, the men's doubles pair of Akshay Dewalkar/Pranaav Jerry Chopra were ousted by seventh seeds Wang Yilyu/Zhang Wen 21-17, 21-12.
