Patna Pirates secure first win in home leg

HAVING TAKEN A CRUCIAL DECISION to bench Captain Rakesh Kumar, Patna Pirates recorded their first victory on home turf and their second to date to move into fifth place in Season 2 of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi They hammered Dabang Delhi by a whopping 39-22 scoreline. Two all outs inflicted on Dabang Delhi by the 17th minute literally broke their back and demoralised them.

 The only man to put up a semblance of a fight was raider Rohit Kumar Choudhary. Kashiling Adake, their star, failed totally and there was no third raider towards whom the Delhi could look at. Despite the heart-breaking loss, the team from the national capital have 15 points from three wins and stand fourth. They conclude their games in the first half of Season 2 against U Mumba tomorrow.

The main architect of the Pirates’ win was Deepak Narwal with 10 points that included two in defence. The other youngsters pulled their weight especially the stand-in-captain Sandeep Narwal and corner man Sunil Kumar who came up with timely tackles with the aid of D Suresh Kumar, the latter was absolutely sure with his blocks.

Patna Pirates had taken the field with a definite plan and they succeeded as Deepak Narwal, Ravi Dalal came up with lightning raids that had the rival defence at sixes and sevens. To add to the misery of Delhi even more so even Sunil Kumar and Amit Hooda enjoyed a few raids against a totally disorganised rival defence.

With no hopes of a revival, Delhi just went through the motions in the second half of the game. Shrikant Tewthia, normally a defending all-rounder snatched a few points with the never say die Rohit trying till the end despite the writing being very much on the wall.
