Alex Corretja was known in the tennis circuit as a formidable clay court player through the 1990s. Corretja was also the runner-up at the French Open (1998 & 2001). The Spaniard also won the year-ending championships in 1998 and reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 2 in 1999. However, Corretja’s biggest moment on the tennis court came after he played a vital role in helping his country win the Davis Cup for the first time in 2000. The Spaniard also won the Bronze Medal in the doubles event at the Sydney Olympics in 2000.
