Paes and Bhupathi, nicknamed the 'Indian Express', was one of the best doubles pairs on the ATP circuit, winning three Grand Slam titles, 25 ATP Tour titles, and rising to world No. 1. In the Davis Cup they still hold the record for the longest streak of doubles victories.

In 1996, Paes made history by becoming the first Indian to win an individual Olympic medal since 1952. He won a bronze at the Atlanta Olympics. Meanwhile, in 1997, Bhupathi made history when he became the first Indian to win a Grand Slam title. Lee-Hesh won their first ATP Tour title together on home soil at the Chennai Open in April 1997. The fairytale ended when, due to various reasons, they parted ways in 2002.
