THE ISL HAS finally confirmed the entry of Punjab FC into the league.
Punjab FC, who won the I-League 2022-23, became the first club to earn a promotion into the ISL by merit. However, their participation was subject to certain criteria.
The first major term was fulfilled when Punjab FC passed the club licensing criteria without a hitch. Afterwards, the club reportedly decided to pay a franchise fee for playing in the ISL, even though they did not need to do this as a merit-based entrant.
Paying the franchise fee gives them a share of the central revenue generated by the league, which the Punjab FC management have deemed to be the preferable choice for the club.
Today, after all the formalities were completed, Punjab FC officially announced that they were entring the ISL.
The club will play the 2023-24 season out of New Delhi due to their home state not having adequate infrastructure to host ISL matches. This issue is likely to be resolved before the next season.
