ISL 2021 HIGHLIGHTS -- Jamshedpur, Hyderabad caught in stalemate

Match 69 of Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2020-21 saw Jamshedpur FC and Hyderabad FC play out a competitive 0-0 draw at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco on Sunday. It was a game of few chances that saw both teams strike the frame of the goal but not score.

The opening stages of the first half witnessed Hyderabad enjoy more of the ball and create most of the chances. Their first opportunity came in the 9th minute when a wonderful through ball by Aridane Santana was threaded into the box and on to the path of Joel Chianese, whose effort was well-saved by goalkeeper TP Rehenesh.

Rehenesh was called into action again in the 21st minute after Halicharan Narzary received the ball on the left and ran into the box to unleash a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area, which touched the Jamshedpur goalkeeper’s fingertips and then the woodwork. Chianese then saw another effort of his from inside the box deflected behind for a Hyderabad corner 12 minutes later.

Jamshedpur started to grow into the game as the first half approached its end. Their new signing Farukh Choudhary tried his luck from outside the box in the 39th minute but his attempt was narrowly wide of the target.

Stephen Eze came closer to putting Jamshedpur in front when his far post header from a corner in the 42nd minute hit the frame of the goal. However, neither team could break the deadlock as they went into the break with the match still goalless.

Both teams took some time to find their feet in the second half and there were not many chances for either side to capitalise on. The teams seemed to be relying more and more on set-pieces as the half progressed without really seeing much goal-mouth action on either end of the pitch.

Santana could have given Hyderabad the lead in the 78th minute when a half-cleared set-piece by Jamshedpur went to him on the edge of the box. The Spaniard wasted no time to get a shot away but couldn’t keep his attempt on target.

The final 10 minutes of the match saw both teams use a more direct route to the opposition goal. Nerijus Valskis registered Jamshedpur’s first attempt on target in the 88th minute when he tested the goalkeeper with a header from a cross off the left.

The final chance of the game came in stoppage time when Farukh was in behind Hyderabad’s defence and only had an outrushing Rehenesh to beat. Farukh tried to chip the goalkeeper but his shot was off the mark as both sides eventually settled for a point.
