MI FOREIGN ASSETS: Too much quality in the pace department to trigger confusion for Mumbai

THE 2013 AND ’15 IPL winners had finished fifth after getting off to a horror start last season. Ahead of the 2017 season, the Mumbai franchise have appointed Mahela Jayawardene as the head coach in place of Ricky Ponting.

In an attempt to rejig the squad, MI released four overseas players -- Corey Anderson, Marchant De Lange, Martin Guptill, Jerome Taylor, in addition to four Indian players. With a healthy squad of 20 players, the franchise possessed the most depleted purse (Rs 11.55 crore) during the IPL 2017 players auction. Despite that, it acquired Mitchell Johnson, Nicolas Pooran and Asela Gunaratne alongside four domestic players.
